Our Story
Birch & Bear Pizza is a creative spin-off of its sister eatery, Toast Culture. Building on Toast Culture’s popular pizza program, Owner/Operator Josh Wilhelm, has created a focussed and expanded, west coast themed pizza & salad menu that takes the average pizza experience to new heights.
Travelling to Naples, Italy (the birthplace of pizza) with his wife Cindy, Josh fell in love with the culture around fresh, handmade pizza with simple yet delicious ingredients. Josh has combined this acquired passion with years of cooking experience on the west coast of British Columbia to create a fusion menu of “The Birch” vegan & vegetarian pizzas and salads & “The Bear” for those with more carnivore driven tastes.
As a locally-owned, family-run business, we pride ourselves on working with local partners to bring our customers a truly enjoyable experience. If he’s not hand stretching your pizza dough, you will likely find Josh pulling the espresso shot for your latte, pouring your pint of locally brewed craft beer, or potentially sitting at the island drinking one himself…
